Windows Mobile 8 – Dead and buried?
A recent virus attack on Windows Mobile has lead to claims of the final nail in the coffin for the OS that has been much maligned recently as iPhone, Palm and Symbian continue to make inroads.
However despite the obvious attractions of these other OS’, especially the iPhone, Microsoft CE and its variants will be with us for a long time – and its good to see that we’re not the only ones to think this way.
To be fair though, I’ve never really had any problem with Windows Mobile, ever since my first HP Jornada. Sure the Apple OS’ are wonderful and slick, but despite a select band of developers being secretly encouraged by the Apple upper echelons to produce extensions to the existing software and give the OS a bit of street cred while breeding the next generation of OS engineers, the support for the Windows products is far greater and of course the WM users can add to their smartphones/PDAs/portable PCs to their hearts/wallets content.
Even when I get my pointy fingers on my own iPhone, I’ll be keeping hold of the WM device. Swiss Army Knife is a very apt description.
