iPhone influence

The recent CTA Wireless Show in Las Vegas confirmed that the iPhone has had a considerable impact on the mobile phone industry, with new units from virtually every handset producer incorporating a variation of the Touch system.

Charles Golvin is a research analyst:

“We’ve seen a lot of wannabes now.  Touch is now an accepted form of interaction.

“Previous to the iPhone, it was thought of something that didn’t make a whole lot of sense, particularly for a mainstream audience.”

Of course countless HTC devices had touchscreens already, but as Avi Greengart, mobile device research director for Current Analysis puts it:

“There were many products and announcements that were changed because of the iPhone.

“We’re seeing a lot more touch-screen phones that Samsung and LG have had in the works, but they’ve been sped up or they slapped a touch screen on something wasn’t intended to have one.”

So choose that touch screen phone carefully – it might be just for show and add little to the device.
