Work for the Workplace

pdafree.jpg The UK and USA have seen some draconian nonsense over the last 10 years, and banning PDAs and smartphones in theme parks is up there with emptying liquids into an airport bin just in case they’re capable of being mixed into an explosive (despite getting mixed in the bin…)

However British theme park Alton Towers thinks for some reason that this would be a good idea, and have even hired staff to form PDA Police.

With a squad of “PDA police” roaming the park, any adults caught using a qualifying device will be directed to one of five “PDA Drop Off Zones” at which they can “safely” leave their PDAs for the day.

“What we have here is the ultimate short break location where every member of the family can unwind and have fun,” explains Russell Barnes, divisional director for the Alton Towers Resort. “We feel it’s so important for parents and kids to focus on nothing more than having the best possible time, we are prepared to take drastic action to ensure that parents really leave their work behind!”

Right.  No one likes to be forced into having fun.  And whatabout the ever increasing numbers of parents that work from home?  A day out should be a day out, sure – but in some cases it is vital to attend to emails from prospective clients.

Alton Towers have a point – yet this all smacks of “Ministry of Fun” big brother politics.
