More iPhone woe for Apple

A recent lawsuit filed against Apple and AT&T which charges misrepresentation of the 3G speed of the iPhone on AT&T’s network has been amended to include a new charge that the iPhone develops hairline cracks in the housing, which according to the plaintiff constitute unfair practices under the New York Deceptive Practices Act.

It’s yet another hit against the iPhone 3G, whose launch was a major embarrassment for Apple with barely enough handsets to fill a store being made available across Europe and America.

According to the original lawsuit, the iPhone is insufficiently supported on AT&T’s 3G network:

“Due to the overloaded 3G network, it is quite common for iPhone users to only be on the 3G network for a few minutes before being bumped to the slower EDGE network despite being in geographical areas allegedly rich with 3G network coverage.”

Despite a massive profile (and it goes without saying the worlds most successful mobile phone interface) the iPhone continues to be advertised with it’s slick interface on display but with steps edited out of TV commercials.

Which kind of defeats the object of advertising it based on the strength of the UI when the advertised example of the UI doesn’t actually work as illustrated.
