Tocco F480 vs Tocco F480

tocco.jpgOne thing I’ve noticed between different UK networks Samsung Tocco’s is the difference in firmware.

I wouldn’t want to get all technical about versions and flashing (you can do that here) but there is a notable, marked difference between, for instance the O2 and Vodafone versions of the device.

This is of course only natural - but it is unfortunate.  All networks should be attempting to give customers the best possible user experience, and a full choice of application is surely the only way to do this.

Vodafone’s UI might be visually different, but that is no excuse for a smaller application set.   The O2 F480 comes with an RSS reader and tools to publish to a picture blogging service.  The browser version is also smoother and less irksome than the slow one on the Vodafone firmware.

All in all, it’s a shame to see consumers short-changes in this way.  At the very least, the apps should be made available on the included CD-ROM for buyers to make their own minds up which they want to install.
